GIRLS BASKETBALL: Grand Rapids forces overtime with desperation buzzer-beater, tops Bemidji in OT

GRAND RAPIDS —Grand Rapids’ Hannah’ Morris hit a 30-foot desperation 3-pointer with 1.4 seconds left to go forced overtime Tuesday night, preventing Bemidji from earning its fifth win of the season.

The Thunderhawks forced overtime and prevailed with a 69-60 victory.

The Lumberjacks (4-20) trailed 31-27 at halftime but came back and were leading the Thunderhawks 58-55 until Morris heaved a long three off an inbound play that hit nothing but net.

That forced overtime, and Grand Rapids (17-7) outscored Bemidji 11-2 in the extra period to win the game.

Cheyenne Woods led the Lumberjacks in the loss, hitting six 3s and going 2-for-3 from the foul line to score 22 points. Alexa Greendahl also had double figures for BHS, scoring 16 points.

Grand Rapids was led by Megan Allen’s 11 points and Heaven Hamling’s 10.

The Lumberjacks return to the court Friday for their regular-season finale against Brainerd. They’ll begin Section 8-4A play, likely on the road at St. Michael-Albertville, next Tuesday.
