Bemidji HS boys soccer tops Little Falls on goals from Burns, Fodness

The Bemidji boys soccer team played follow the leader Friday, turning back Little Falls 2-1 on the losers field.

It followed the girls win by the same score in the opening game.

Today, Bemidji faces a key conference test with defending champion Hillcrest Academy at 3. That game will follow the girls 1 p.m. game with Walker.

Bemidji controlled its game by far more than the final score would indicate, out shooting the Flyers 16-8 and taking a 2-0 lead into the final 10 minutes before Little Falls scored.

Mike Burns converted a Luke Upgren crossing pass for the first tally at the 28 minute mark and sophomore Kyle Fodness made it 2-0 ten minutes later from a Max Hazelton feed.

Bemidji out shot the Flyers 10-3 at the break.

It was only 6-5 after the intermission though the two goal lead stayed intact until Kevin Grams converted a Grant Bell feed on a breakaway.

Larson ended with seven saves. Casey Stauffel had 14 for Little Falls.

"We had more chances to score," said Coach Rick Toward, "Rylee Curb hit a crossbar with a close range shot and we failed to make connections with several others."

T B Team salvaged a 1-1 tie with a dramatic finish.

Little Falls had scored at the 32:00 mark and made the one goal lead stand up until David Wyllie was fouled in the last 10 seconds.

He converted his penalty kick to gain the tie.

Ben Schreiber had 11 stops for Bemidji subbing for Carl Graefe who was out of town.

Mike Stumpf had seven for the Flyers.

Jeff Mitchell's forces will also face the Comets today at 1 at the high school field.
