Girls golf qualifies, boys falter
The Bemidji High girls golf team advanced to the final 18 holes at the Section 8-2A golf meet at Long Prairie Monday , finishing within 16 strokes of the leaders after the opening round.
The boys did not make the top six at its meet at Greystone though Jake Hoffman will be back on the course today in the individual competition.
The girls meet advances only the top four teams under normal conditions with the exception that any team within 16 strokes of the leader also will move on .
Apollo won with a 382, averaging over 95 strokes per player.
Alexandria was next at 383 with Tech 386 and Buffalo 388 completing the top four.
Bemidji was fifth at 390 and Sartell sixth at 392 to return today.
Maggie Leland of Alexandria took medalist honors at 79.
For Bemidji, Shelby Sauer was low at 92 with Emily Frosaker 97, Megan Phelps 100 and Kelsey Bretschneider 101 completing the scoring.
The kickers were Erin Buckanaga at 106 and Aimee Sandquist 107.
Alexandria led the boys meet at 302 averaging 75.5 per man at Greystone. Moorhead was second at 310 with Fergus Falls 312, Rogers 316, Brainerd 326 and St. Cloud Tech 329 completing the top six teams to advance.
Bemidji was 11 in a field of 13 at 341 one stroke out of eighth but12 short of advancing.
Chris Sholtz of Alex took medalist honors at two under par 70. Nick Olsgaard of Moorhead hit 72 and Shawn Halverson of Brainerd 75.
For Bemidji, Hoffman had 82, Joe Welle and Rylee Curb 86 and Trey Dale 87 to complete the scoring. The kickers were Kevin Larson 91 and Kaleb Hanson 95.
Hoffman finished among the top 12 individuals not on the advancing teams and will play his final 18 today. He and Dale are only freshmen.
