BHS boys, girls golf teams finish in upper half of tournaments

Both Bemidji High golf teams finished in the upper half of their fields at Saturday meets.

The girls finished fifth in a 15-team field at the Staples-Motley Invitational at The Legacy.

The boys were seventh among 18 teams at the Preserve at Nisswa hosted by Brainerd and Pequot Lakes,

Three-year state 2A champion Minnewaska won the girls title at 321, well ahead of second place Hopkins at 4347,

Grand Rapids and Detroit Lajkes preceded Bemidji which took fifth at 373.

St. Cloud Tech was 12, Brainerd 14 and Fergus Falls 15.

Sara Roring of Minnewaska was medalist with a 76.

For Bemidji, Shelby Sauer hit 89, Emily Frosaker 92, Kelsey Bretschneider 95 and Megan Phelps 97 to complete the scoring.

The kickers were Erin Buckanaga 111 and Marissa Loch 121.

The team completes its four meet weekend Monday at Hazeltine at the Chaska Invitational.

Boys Tournament

Hermantown won the title at The Preserve with a 320.

International Falls was second at 329 with Grand Rapids, Brainerd and Staples-Motley rounding out the top five.

Virginia edged Bemidji for sixth by one stroke at 352.

Alex Kolquist of Hermantown took medalist honors at 75.

Shawn Halverson of Brainerd was second at 78 and Andrew Oaks of Hermantown third at 79.

That trio had tied at 79 a day earlier for medalist honors at The Pines.

For Bemidji, Joe Welle led at 83 with Trey Dale 88, Kevin Larson 89 and Kaleb Hanson 93 completing the scoring,

The kickers were Rylee Curb 98 and Jake Hoffman105.

Bemidji plays the Alexandria Invitational Thursday and at Greystone Saturday. Greystone is the site of the section meet in late May.
