BHS softball team nets two wins in Twin Cities

The Bemidji High softball team rebounded from its only loss of the season Friday at Chaska to sweep two Saturday games from Mounds View 7-3 and Tartan 9-5.

It lifted Brad Takkunen's forces to 5-1. They travel to Little Falls Monday for a makeup of an April 4 postponement.

Paige Jensen spaced eight hits at Mounds View, blanking the home team in the final four frames.

Bemidji trailed 2-0 after one frame but went ahead with four in the second.

With two gone and Brittany Thompson on first, Chelsea Yost singled and Megan Gullickson walked to fill the bases.

Amber Teal singled home two. The third scored on an error and Kaia Sele's one bagger plated the fourth.

Mounds View got one back in the third to trail 4-3 but came no closer.

Bemidji widened the lead in the fifth, scoring once on Meg Claypool's doubles and a single by Jensen .

It added two more in the sixth on a walk and singles by Sele and Claypool.

Sele had three hits and Claypool, Emily Larson and Yost two in the 12-hit attack. Jensen raised her record to 2-0.

Bemidji jumped to a 3-0 lead at Tartan in the second on doubles by Yost and Tara Ripplinger around a single by Gullickson.

It became 4-0 in the fifth on singles by Teal and Sele around a stolen base.

But Tartan erupted for five in its fifth to go ahead 5-4.

Three walks were each followed by three singles to do the damage,

But Bemidji answered with five in its sixth inning.

Yost reached on an error but was forced at second. Chelsea Johnson singled and Ripplinger tied the score with a one bagger.

A hit by Teal sent Bemidji ahead and after a one bagger by Sele, Haley Johnson sent home another run with a sacrifice fly.

Another run scored on an error and the fifth as Claypool fanned on a dropped third strike and had to be thrown out at first.

Sele and Ripplinger had three hits and Gullickson and Teal two in the 12-hit attack. Ripplinger drove home three runs.

Yost went the route on a four hitter to get her third win.

Either she or Erika Weimann will start at Little Falls.

B Team sweeps

The B Team swept its three games. Friday it won at Chaska 9-1 behind Jess Yost, pounding out 15 hits including four by Mikayla Dahlin, three by Summer Monsrud and two by Yost, both triples.

Saturday morning it went eight innings to shade Mounds View 7-6.

Taylor Mclean went the route to win allowing 10 hits. Bemidji also had 10 with Mclean getting three, Casey Miller two with a double and April Ogden belting a triple.

In the afternoon, Bemidji blasted Tartan 10-2, banging out 13 hits.

Brianna Glynn got the win, her second, spacing six hits.

Mclean had four of Bemidji's 13 with Miller, Glynn and Yost getting two. Miller's were a triple and double with Yost also belting a triples.

The B Team is 6-0.
