Wrestling: Lumberjacks overpower Grand Rapids 41-25
GRAND RAPIDS -- The Bemidji wrestling team quickly shrugged any ill effects from Thursday's 31-30 criteria loss to BGMR as the Lumberjacks bounced back Friday with a 47-19 victory at Grand Rapids.
Friday's triumph gave BHS a 10-4 dual record.
After losing a major decision at 106 pounds Bemidji went on a tear, winning five straight matches and forging a 20-4 lead.
Igniting the spurt was Brian Maas who posted an 11-1 victory at 113 pounds. Indi Farris followed with a 17-0 tech fall at 120 and Tyler O'Beirne added a 6-2 decision win.
Capping the rally were major decision wins by Dylon Sauceda at 132 and Robert Treuer at 138.
The Jacks fell at 145 and 152 but regained their footing with three straight wins. Gannon Strain posted a 7-2 decision victory at 160 and Nick Peterson pinned his 170-pound foe. Kade Johnson, who this week moved up to No. 3 in the Class 3A state rankings at 182 pounds, lived up to that billing as he pinned his opponent in 1:17.
Gabe Flaherty posted a fall at 220 pounds and Wyatt Yoemans ended the night with a pin victory at heavyweight.
The wrestlers resume their season Tuesday when they face Little Falls and Alexandria in Little Falls.
