Bjerknes to plead guilty to state and federal charges

BOYS HOCKEY: Bemidji tops Sauk Rapids-Rice 4-1

SAUK RAPIDS -- Jack Johnson scored twice as Bemidji defeated Sauk Rapids-Rice 4-1 Tuesday night.

In a penalty-filled game that saw the teams combine for 40 minutes of time in the sin bin, it was Sauk Rapids (10-7) that scored first on Travis Kothenbeutel's goal just 1 minute, 34 seconds into play.

But the Lumberjacks (8-9) rallied and scored the next two goals of the second period just 50 seconds apart from one another.

Johnson scored with assists from Sam Brustle and Brent Isensee at the 11:09 mark, then Josh Lusby scored what turned out to be the game-winner on the power play at 11:59. Nick Leitner and Isensee assisted on the goal.

The Lumberjacks added another in the second period on Jake Leitner's goal at 15:14; then Johnson sealed the game with his second goal of the night with an unassisted tally at 14:59 of the third.

"We played a solid 5-on-5 game," BHS head coach Wade Chiodo said. "Things got a little out of rhythm for both teams with all the penalties so it was tough to get into one but we found a way to get some good play going in 5-on-5 play.

"I'll take that any day of the week if we can get a win."

The Lumberjacks outshot the Storm 45-16; Garrett Attaberry made 15 saves for BHS. William Mortenson stopped 41 shots for Sauk Rapids.

The Lumberjacks return to action Saturday when they'll host Alexandria at 7 p.m.
