Nordic skiing: Bemidji girls first, boys second at Fergus Falls meet

FERGUS FALLS — The Bemidji girls Nordic ski team took first place at Thursday’s Fergus Falls Invitational while the boys finished second.

The event featured a 5.4-kilometer skate course and taking the girls individual title was Berit Ramstad-Skoyes of Detroit Lake who completed the race in 17:40.

The Jacks claimed four of the next seven positions, however.

Jenna Truedson finished second (17:43), Morgan Sagedahl third (18:33), Maari Stocker fifth (19:30) and Atomic Thorson seventh (19:55).

Also competing for BHS were California Thorson, Anna Ingalls and Ariel Tix.

Alexandria won the boys meet and Bemidji was second.

Billy Freyholtz paced the Jacks as he was fourth in 16:03. Josh Claussen placed eighth (18:10), Joel Carlson 12th (18:58), Chris Washington 13th (19:08), Henry Steever 14th (19:20), Sam Sharpe 15th (19:25) and Austin Chatterton 16th (19:35).

On Saturday BHS will participate in the massive Mesabi East Invitational at Giant’s Ridge. The meet is expected to attract 1,300 skiers and is the largest high school ski meet in the country.

The classic portion of the competition will be held in the morning while the skating portion is scheduled for the afternoon.
