GIRLS HOCKEY: Five-goal first lifts Thief River Falls to 6-0 victory over BHS
THIEF RIVER FALLS — The Bemidji High School girls hockey team fell behind second-ranked Thief River Falls and never recovered.
TRF, the No.2 team in Class A, only outshot the 29-25 but made their shots count.
Emily Bergland scored twice in the first frame and assisted on two more goals to earn four points on the night, while Morgan Martell, Sylvia Marlot and Briana Jorde also scored in the first period to give the Prowlers (14-0) a 5-0 lead after one.
Brandi Malwitz scored Thief River Falls’ other goal in the second period.
That would be all the Prowlers would need, as the Lumberjacks (3-7-2) couldn’t find the back of the net.
BHS used both goaltenders in the game — Leighton Rockensock and Emily Frazer — and their combined for 23 saves.
TRF’s Frances Marshall made 25 saves.
The Lumberjacks return to action Saturday against Brainerd.
