Beavers make the All-NSIC soccer team

BEMIDJI -- Samantha Lumberg, Tiffany VanHaaften, Sonja Barr, Mary O'Brien and Jessie Voeller of the Bemidji State University soccer team were named to the All-Northern Sun Conference teams.

Lumberg and VanHaaften were selected to the second team while Barr and O'Brien made the third team and Voeller the honorable mention squad.

Lumberg started in all 19 games and anchored a back line that produced eight shutouts. Offensively she had two assists.

VanHaaften was fifth on the squad with 10 points. She also scored four goals.

Barr started 12 times in the BSU goal and played in 14 games. She compiled a 9-5 NSIC record and had six shutouts and a save percentage of .878.

O'Brien was second on the team with 17 points. She also was tied for first among the Beavers with seven goals.

Voeller was a senior forward who scored four goals and had five assists.

The Beavers finished 12-7-0 overall and 9-6-0 in NSIC play. The season ended with a 2-0 loss to UMD in the quarterfinals of the conference playoffs.

Season ends for cross country team

Mikayla Connell placed 153rd among 203 runners with a time of 24:46.89 to lead Bemidji State at the 6,000-meter NCAA Central Region meet held Saturday in Sioux Falls.

The Beavers placed 30th as a team with a team time of 2:07.35.

Emily Turner was 159th (24:52.70).

UMD won the meet with a team time of 1:48.46. Trailing the Bulldogs were Southwest Baptist, Augustana and Winona.
