VOLLEYBALL: Bemidji falls to Grand Rapids in four

GRAND RAPIDS — Bemidji hung with Grand Rapids but the Thunderhawks pulled away late in the fourth set en route to a 25-23, 25-15, 25-16, 27-25 victory Friday night.

“In general we played well,” BHS head coach Teresa Colligan said. “We just couldn’t put it together at the end.

“That last set we got very inconsistent and couldn’t pull it out.”

The Lumberjacks (8-10) led 23-21 late in the fourth but couldn’t finish off the game and the Thunderhawks (19-1) ended up pulling it out the 27-25 to win in four.

Colligan said Bemidji had trouble defending against Grand Rapids’ Angela Gareri up front.

For BHS, Myria Colley led the team with 14 kills while Brylee Colligan had 12. Alexa Greendahl had 26 set assists while defensively Colley had 17 digs to lead BHS.

Claire Laakso had five blocks and Colley also added three aces.

Bemidji returns to the court Tuesday at Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton then comes home to take on Wadena-Deer Creek.
