BOYS HOCKEY: Roseau rolls to 3-1 win over BHS
ROSEAU -- The Bemidji High School boys hockey team couldn’t get much going at Memorial Arena Thursday night and fell 3-1 to Roseau in a Section 8AA clash.
The Lumberjacks (9-11) held the host Rams (11-10) off the board for the opening 17 minutes, but could not put together any offense themselves in the first period.
Past the midway point in the second period, Aaron Huglen scored the first of his two goals at 9:01 mark off feeds from Nathan Adrian and Alex Verbout. Bryce Johnson increased the lead to 2-0 five minutes later to send Roseau to the locker room with a two-goal cushion.
Huglen, a Golden Gopher commit, connected with Verbout and Adrian again for his second tally of the night 39 seconds into the third period.
Hunter Olson would not let the Lumberjacks leave empty handed. With Bemidji on the penalty kill, the junior charged into the opposing zone and deposited a puck past Oliver Lee for his second short-handed goal of the season.
The Jacks struggled to create many chances the rest of the way, however, as the Rams outshot them 20-2 in the final frame.
Matt Fitzgerald made 33 saves on 36 shots for BHS while Lee stopped 14 shots in net.
Bemidji will try to get back in the win column Monday, Feb. 5, when they head to Grand Rapids for a 7:30 p.m. contest with the defending state champions.
