CROSS COUNTRY: BHS teams get a glimpse of section course
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- The Bemidji High School boys and girls cross country teams got their first look Thursday afternoon at what will be this year’s Section 8AA course in Thief River Falls.
“It was our first time ever being up at that course, and it’s the course we’ll run on at sections, so I thought we had a pretty solid day,” BHS head coach Ryan Aylesworth said.
The Lumberjack boys finished third as a team with 65 points, while the girls took fourth with 117.
Leading the boys was junior Gage Mostad with a sixth-place finish (17:17.4), followed by Riley Berg (17:34.0) and Nicholas Youso (17:39.6) in 10th and 11th, respectively.
Ethan Maish crossed the line in 22nd (18:13.8), while Isaak McDonald took 29th (18:38.6) and Cale Newby took 62nd (19:48.6).
The boys finished directly behind Sartell-St.Stephen’s 59 points, while Moorhead took first as a team with 48.
In the girls race, Gwen Youso’s time of 20:40.3 was enough for eighth place. Regan DeWitt followed in 10th at 20:42.9, while Kayle Dewitt and Liberty Dickerson finished 20th and 21st with respective times of 21:33.0 and 21:33.5
MacKenzie Williams crossed the finish line at 24:44.1 to claim 71st, followed by Nessa Peters in 76th (25:06.3) and Laura Thompson in 79th (25:11.4).
Rocori took first as a team for the girls with 62 points, followed by Sartell-St. Stephen in second (86) and Becker in third (109).
“For where we’re at on the season and having it as our second meet of the week, the kids ran very solidly today,” Aylesworth said. “I was pleased with their efforts, they placed pretty close to where they wanted and it was a pretty good day.”
The boys and girls teams next compete at the Little Falls Invitational starting at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at Little Falls Country Club.
