Bemidji State spring football starts today
BEMIDJI – The Bemidji State football team’s spring practices might feel like anything but.
The Beavers are scheduled to begin spring practice from 1-3 p.m. today.
But the team, like every spring sports squad in northern Minnesota, may not be outside anytime soon.
BSU will be taking their first practice reps inside at BSU’s Gillette Recreation/Fitness Center. The team had to delay the start of spring practice due to snow still on the field at Chet Anderson Stadium and the practice facility some time for snow to melt.
The Beavers get 15 spring practices, which will culminate with the annual Green and White spring game Thursday, April 25, at 7 p.m. at Chet Anderson Stadium.
Also April 25, the BSU football team will host a youth football clinic before the spring contest.
The camp is open to all kids currently in grades K-6 and is $15 per participant. Clinic registration begins at 4 p.m., will start at 5 p.m. and the spring game will follow at 7 p.m.
Current BSU football coaches and players will conduct on-field fundamental football instructions on throwing, catching, blocking, kicking and tackling. Included in the registration fee are a Beaver football T-shirt, picnic lunch and the opportunity to get autographs from Bemidji State coaches and athletes.
A picnic lunch and autograph session will follow the one-hour clinic at 6 p.m. and the event will be capped with the spring game, which is free and open to the public. In the event of bad weather, the camp will be moved indoors to the Gillett Fitness/Recreation Center.
