WOMEN'S HOCKEY: Ohio State tops Bemidji State 4-1
COLUMBUS, Ohio – After a program-best weekend at Wisconsin, the Bemidji State women’s hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to tenth-ranked Ohio State Friday night at the OSU Ice Rink.
The Beavers (2-4-1, 1-3-1 WCHA) held the Buckeyes (6-3-0, 4-3-0) off the board in the first period, but OSU started the second period with a barrage of goals. Taylor Kuehl, Minttu Tuominen and Julia McKinnon all scored on BSU goaltender Abby Ryplanski in the first five minutes. Paige Semenza added another goal at the midway point of the period to make it 4-0.
Jess Havel replaced Ryplanski after that and went on to stop all 12 shots she faced in the game’s final 30:59.
Natasha Kostenko scored BSU’s lone goal on the night, getting the Beavers on the board with 5:24 left in the second period, but the Beavers couldn’t take advantage of a strong final period in which they outshot the Buckeyes 12-5.
OSU finished the night with a 31-30 shot advantage and killed off all five Beaver power-play attempts.
The teams return to the ice at 3 p.m. today for the final game of the series.
