MEN'S HOCKEY: Read named to Hockey Canada's IIHF World Championship roster

BEMIDJI -- Former BSU forward Matt Read, now a member of the Philadelphia Flyers, was announced Sunday as one of the 23 players on Canada's roster for the 2014 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Championship.

The IIHF begins Friday, May 9 in Minsk, Belarus, and will run through May 25.

The selection, announced by Hockey Canada Executive Director Rob Blake, is the second consecutive for the former Beaver.

Read picked up a goal and two assists in eight games for Canada in the 2013 IIHF, where Canada was knocked off by Sweden in the quarterfinal round.

Read is one of 18 players on Canada's roster who has previous World Championship experience.

In his third NHL season, Read scored 22 goals and tallied 18 assists in 75 games to rank seventh on the Flyers roster in points.

Canada will begin its IHF action Friday against France.
