BSU SPORTS ROUNDUP: Braun earns NSIC player of the week, Beavers start 3-1

BURNSVILLE — Senior catcher Zach Braun hit .538 with three homeruns and nine RBI in BSU’s first four games of the season to help propel the team to a 3-1 start.

The Beavers are beginning their season in Tucson, Ariz.

They split a pair of games Saturday against Malone, before sweeping Mount Marty with 3-1 and 5-4 wins Sunday.

Braun picked up at least one hit in each of the four contests, while blasting all three homeruns Saturday against Malone.

Braun is not the only one enjoying the season thus far, as Joey Hanowski and Cole Bjorge are each hitting .467 through the first four games.

On the mound, Tyler Saeugling, Miles Campbell, and Terry Hadden have eached picked up a win, while Drake Huggans has suffered the only loss.

The Beavers will continue their spring break trip this week with games against fellow NSIC teams St. Cloud State, Southwest Minnesota State, Northern State, and Concordia-St. Paul.

Softball sweeps first day

The BSU softball team continued its early success with a pair of wins Monday in Myrtle Beach, Fla. against Swarthmore College and Ursinus College.

The Beavers used their bats to earn the sweep as they totalled 26 hits in the two games.

Mikayla Osterman led the attack in the first game, a 7-1 win, by going 2-for-4 with a pair of two-run triples.

Danielle Jecmen (3-1) earned the win as she allowed one run on just five hits in a complete game.

Nicole Dupay and Kaitlyn Shea led the way in the second game, a 9-4 victory, as they each went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI.

Allison Roberts improved to 2-0 on the season as she allowed three earned runs on seven hits in seven innings.

BSU (6-2) is just two wins shy of matching the win total of last season. It will look to continue its winning ways today against Delaware Valley College and Arcadia University.

In all, the Beavers will play a total of nine games in Myrtle Beach.
