Bemidji State baseball: Jamestown takes two from BSU

The Bemidji State baseball team's 2010 home finale was spoiled Tuesday as Jamestown College swept the Beavers in a non-conference doubleheader.

The Jimmies won the first game 10-1 and the second game 5-4 in nine innings.

Bemidji State (16-33, 7-23 NSIC) closes out the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season on the road with a doubleheader at U-Mary Wednesday at 2 p.m..

The Beavers played conservative in Tuesday's doubleheader and pitched five pitchers in the 16 innings of play.

The Jimmies improved to 32-9 on the season with the wins.

Jamestown struck early in the first game by scoring three runs in the first inning off BSU starting pitcher Brian Murphy.

Joe Chism's RBI single in the first inning scored Colton Smith for the Beavers only run of the game.

Murphy pitched three innings before giving way to Ryan Guy and Billy Sather.

Jamestown started quick again in the second game and led 4-0 after two innings.

Ryan Van Someren made his second start of the season on the mound for BSU.

The Beavers scored all four runs of the game in the fourth inning. Ryan Sander's RBI single to left field scored Smith for the first run and Doug Peterson's booming home run over the left field fence scored Nick Jelacie and Ryan Sander.

PJ Pina won the game for Jamestown with a home run in the ninth inning.

Van Someren pitched 8 1-3 innings. He allowed five runs on seven hits and had four strikeouts.

Junior right-hander Dan Bauer has been named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week by the league office, after his strong effort leading the Beavers to a 7-3 win against U-Mary on April 21.

Bauer had a career-high 15 strikeouts the win at BSU Baseball Field to help the Beavers complete the sweep of the Marauders. He allowed just four hits in the game in pitching all seven innings and improving his record to 3-3.

Bauer has 34 strikeouts in conference play this season, ranking him eighth among NSIC pitchers.
