The BSU football team began its spring practice schedule Monday and the practices will continue through the annual Green and White game on April 22 at Chet Anderson Stadium.

The coaching staff will work with 11 returning offensive starters and eight starters on defense.

Baseball drops 4

The Bemidji State University baseball team dropped a four-game home set to Augustana Saturday and Sunday, falling 15-8 and 14-7 on Saturday and losing 12-5 and 19-5 on Sunday.

The visitors opened a 6-0 advantage in Sunday's opener and settled the issue with five runs in the ninth.

Brian Jamieson took the mound loss, allowing six runs in five innings. Dan Bauer, Josh Silvernagel and Dan Bennett each had two hits for the Beavers.

In Sunday's nightcap the Beavers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Augustana answered with three in the upper second, a run in the fourth and three more in the fifth. A seven-run sixth inning by Augustana ended any Bemidji State hopes of a victory.

Logan Kalis ripped four hits in as many at-bats for BSU and Silvernagel had two RBI.

Saturday afternoon Silvernagel and Joe Chism each had two hits in the 15-8 loss. Chism ripped a home run in the game and had another round-tripper in Saturday's rematch.

Bemidji State (10-13, 1-5 NSIC) will be at home Thursday and Friday against Winona State.

Softball team splits

The Beaver softball team split a home doubleheader with Crookston on Saturday.

BSU captured the opener 6-1 but dropped the nightcap 5-0.

Courtney Anderson went the distance on the mound to win the first game. Kelsey Saralampi pitched the first six innings of the second game and took the loss, allowing five runs. Only two of the runs were earned, however.
