SOFTBALL: BSU starts season 3-0

ST. PAUL — The BSU softball team has opened the 2014 season on a three-game winning streak.

The Beavers played their first three games of the season indoors at the West St. Paul Dome and defeated all three teams they played Tuesday: Jamestown College, Valley City State and Wisconsin-Superior. The Beavers are off to their best start since 2006.

In the first game of the day, BSU blanked Jamestown 1-0 thanks to a seven-inning no-hit shutout from freshman pitcher Danielle Jecmen. Megan Bergeson’s RBI single that scored Brittany Lenander was the game’s lone run.

In the second game freshman Jess Yost pitched all seven innings and gave up just one run on eight hits as the Beavers topped Valley City State 4-1.

BSU scored three runs in the second inning on a pair of doubles from freshmen Courtney O’Connor and Angie Roberts; the Beavers tacked on another run in the seventh for the win.

In the final game Tuesday BSU exploded for 15 hits against UWS but needed a three-run seventh to get the insurance needed for the win.

Jessica Yost scattered eight hits and posted seven strikeouts to get her first collegiate victory in the game. The big hit in the inning was double by freshman Megan Boser, which plated freshmen Libby Bingham and Alayna Krejci. In the circle, junior Allison Roberts allowed just two runs on three hits for the win.

BSU will attempt to remain unbeaten today for three mkore games at the West St. Paul Dome. The Beavers rematch Valley City at 9 a.m. before playing Carleton College at 11 a.m. They’ll play one more game against Superior at 1 p.m. to close out their games in the Twin Cities.
