MINNEAPOLIS — After shutting out Bemidji State Friday night, No. 1 Minnesota scored the first four goals Saturday.

This time, the Beavers got back into the game with a three-goal third period to cut Minnesota’s lead down to one, 4-3.

However, the Gophers scored another goal and held off the Beavers in their Western Collegiate Hockey Association game 5-3, completing the sweep in at Ridder Arena.

Senior Tess Dusik had a goal and an assist for BSU (9-18-3, 6-16-2-1 WCHA) while Danniele Williams added two assists to help BSU get back into the game.

Hannah Brandt had a two goals and an assist for Minnesota while Milicia McMillen had three helpers for the Gophers (28-1-1, 22-1-1 WCHA)

The Gophers led just 1-0 at first intermission but the teams combined for seven goals in the middle frame.

After Minnesota took a 4-0 lead the Beavers got a spark during 4-on-4 action.

Junior Alex Citrowske scored at the 11:09 mark with assists by Williams and Dusik.

A minute later the Beavers scored two quick goals to make it a game again.

Transfer sophomore Stephanie Anderson, who played for the Gophers before coming to BSU, snuck a puck past Amanda Levielle with assists from Williams and Madison Hutchinson.

Forty-nine seconds later, Dusik got an unassisted tally at the 7:05 mark to cut it to 4-3.

However, Brandt answered with her second goal of the game at 18:45.

In the third period neither team could find the back of the net and Minnesota held on for a win.

Freshman goaltender Brittni Mowat saved 27 shots in 60 minutes of action. Levielle finished the night with 18 saves.

BSU returns to action next weekend in its final home series of the season as it hosts Ohio Feb. 14-15.
