MEN'S BASKETBALL: Lutes leads Beavers to big road win

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Brock Lutes delivered a second consecutive 30-point game in a 97-79 BSU win over Augustana Friday in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Lutes poured in a career-high 34 points on 11-of-13 shooting and made all eight of his free throw attempts as the Beavers (9-4, 6-3 NSIC) won their second straight game.

BSU shot a school-record 71.2 percent from the field and five different players scored in double figures; the Beavers went 37-for-52 from the floor to secure their first-ever victory at Augustana's Elmen Center. The Vikings (9-6, 6-3 NSIC) turned the ball over 15 times and finished with a season-low 20 rebounds.

Lutes and Zach Noreen got things started for the Beavers by scoring 13 points in the first six minutes to help build an early 15-7 lead.

A three-pointer from Noreen pushed BSU's lead to 34-16 at with 8:39 remaining in the first half.

Noreen and Lutes combined to score 30 of the team's first 34 points on 13-of-14 shooting.

A three-point play by Maxie Rosenbloom gave the Beavers their largest lead of the half at 45-22 with 4:37 left in the half.

BSU shot 75 percent from the field in the first half to build a 52-32 lead against the NSIC's fifth best defense.

Lutes delivered a perfect first half with 21 points on 8-for-8 shooting and three connections from long distance.

The Beavers offense started the second half at the same pace they ended the first half as baskets from Rosenbloom and Lutes made the score 67-46 with 11:29 left in the game.

A three-pointer from Casey Schilling cut the Vikings deficit to just 11 points at 77-66 with five minutes remaining.

Jake Schalow delivered the dagger for BSU with a three-pointer that extended the lead back to 16 points with under three minutes left.

Noreen finished with 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting for the Beavers.

Michael Farrington tallied his first career double-double with 12 points and 11 assists off of the bench. He added a game-high four steals on the night.

Schilling led the Vikings with 18 points.

BSU will look to make it three wins in a row as it plays at Wayne State today at 6 p.m.
