WOMEN'S HOCKEY: Mowat named defensive player of the week

MADISON, Wis. -- Bemidji State women's hockey goaltender Brittni Mowat was selected as the Western Collegiate Hockey Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for her role in the Beavers' series last weekend against Ohio State.

The freshman from Glenboro, Manitoba, made 81 saves over the weekend with a .953 save percentage and a 1.92 goals-against average while leading BSU to a five-point road weekend at Ohio State. She also blanked the Buckeyes on all nine power-play opportunities in the series.

Mowat made 50 saves against OSU Saturday in a 2-2 overtime tie.

In the series opener Friday, Mowat earned her fourth victory of the season in a 3-2 BSU win over Ohio State, stopping 31 of 33 shots on goal.

Mowat has appeared in all 12 of BSU's games this season, starting 11. She has a 2.32 goals-against average, a .920 save percentage and one shutout over 647:10 of action, the second most minutes between the pipes in the WCHA. She is 4-5-2.

Bemidji State (4-6-2) continues conference play with Minnesota State Mankato this weekend at the Sanford Center.
