BSU ROUNDUP: Beavers golfers sixth at NSIC meet
BRAINERD -- Bemidji State junior John Hafdal carded a six-over-par 78 on Day 2 of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preview Monday, finishing the event tied for 12th at 12-over-par (156).
The Beavers completed the tournament tied for sixth place with a team total of 635 (+59).
Bemidji State used a 319 (+31) Tuesday, at the 6,903-yard Classic at Madden's in Brainerd to jump from eighth position into a tie with Augustana for sixth place.
St. Cloud State led the 36-hole event from wire to wire. The Huskies recorded a team total of 593 (+17) to own a 13-stroke edge over Winona State (606/+30) and the rest of the field.
Andrew Nelson, of Sioux Falls, fired a Day 2 low score of 70 (-2) to slide up from fourth place and claim medalist honors. He finished the event with an even 144 (E) to earn the top spot by just one shot.
The Beavers return to action Sept. 16-17 when they travel to Oxbow Country Club in Fargo to participate in the Erv Kaiser Invitational.
Quinn named defensive player of the week
BURNSVILLE -- BSU sophomore linebacker Connor Quinn was named the NSIC's Defensive Player of the Week following his efforts in BSU's 34-27 overtime victory at Winona State.
The Geneva, Ill., native had a team-best 10 tackles (nine solo) and also recovered a fumble for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to help spark the Beavers' comeback victory.
His 3.0 tackles for loss tied for a week one high in the NSIC, while he added a sack and a pass break-up. The fumble recovery was his fourth in his young career, and it was his first collegiate touchdown.
