BOYS BASKETBALL: Bemidji to face DL in 8-3A quarters
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji High School boys basketball team learned it will host Detroit Lakes in a Section 8-3A tournament quarterfinal game Tuesday, March 6, when the seedings were announced Saturday. The third-seeded Lumberjacks (17-8) will take on the sixth-seeded Lakers (15-11) in a 7 p.m. contest Tuesday to kick off the section tournament.
Bemidji recently played Detroit Lakes in its regular season finale March 1, a 69-66 road loss to the Lakers. The Jacks defeated DL, 67-49, in the teams’ first meeting Dec. 19 in Bemidji.
Fergus Falls (20-6) received the top seed and will host No. 8 Little Falls (9-17) Tuesday. The other quarterfinal matchups feature No. 2 Sauk Rapids-Rice (18-8) meeting No. 7 Sartell-St. Stephen (4-22) and No. 4 Alexandria (14-12) facing No. 5 St. Cloud Apollo (11-15).
Seedings were also announced for the Section 8AA and Section 5A boys basketball tournaments Saturday.
Bagley garnered the North No. 5 seed in the 8AA tournament and will travel to No. 4 East Grand Forks for a first-round game at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 8. 8AA quarterfinals will be played at Concordia-Moorhead on March 10 with the semifinals at Moorhead High School on March 12 and the championship at Concordia on March 15.
Laporte will be the No. 11 seed in the 5A North subsection and play at No. 6 Pine River-Backus in a first-round game at 7 p.m., Monday, March 5. 5A subsection quarterfinals will be held at higher seeds on March 8 with subsection semifinals set for March 10, subsection finals on March 13 and the section championship on March 16.
