BOYS BASKETBALL: Jacks top Grand Rapids 78-72 in road rematch
GRAND RAPIDS -- The Bemidji High School boys basketball team avenged last week’s home loss to Grand Rapids with a 78-72 road victory Tuesday behind a balanced attack of five players in double figures.
Jace Peterson and Linaes Whiting combined for 20 points in the first half, helping the Lumberjacks (8-4) out to a three-point edge at 37-34.
Kade Peterson and Spencer Konecne each totalled nine points after halftime, while Jace Peterson added another nine. The trio led BHS in fending off any Thunderhawks (9-5) rally despite 18 points from Brooks Bachmann in the final half.
Bemidji added to its lead in the closing 18, finishing with another three-point advantage for the six-point win, 78-72.
Jace Peterson finished with a team-high 19 points to go along with seven rebounds and eight assists. Whiting and Kade Peterson followed with 13 and 12 points, respectively, while Konecne (11), Ryan Bieberdorf (10) and Jacob Beberg (nine) also aided the Bemidji cause.
Stacy Washington scored a game-high 20 points for Grand Rapids, and Nate Seelye and Bachmann respectively poured in 19 and 18, as well.
The Lumberjacks are back on the hardwood at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18, in Pequot Lakes for a road matchup with the Patriots.
