Bemidji area softball teams begins playoffs

KELLIHER — If the weatherman cooperates the postseason for the Section 8A softball teams will begin today and two area teams will own the home-field advantage.

Blackduck was given the third seed in the North Sub-Section and will entertain No. 6 Red Lake Country Central at 5 p.m. today. The Drakes own an 8-5 record while RLCC is 3-11.

Kelliher-Northome also will be home as the 8-5 Mustangs claim the fourth seed in the North Sub-Section. They will host No. 5 Lake of the Woods (6-10) in the first round of the playoffs, also at 5 p.m.

Red Lake (1-9) is seeded eighth and will travel to top-ranked Badger-Greenbush-Middle River (14-6).

The other North Sub-Section first round match-up finds No. 2 Red Lake Falls hosting No. 7 Indus.

The tournament is a double-elimination affair and today’s schedule at Kelliher includes the elimination games plus the championship semifinals and final.

In the South Sub-Section Cass Lake-Bena (8-7) is the sixth seed and the Panthers will head to No. 3 Norman County (12-4) for today’s first round contest.

Laporte (0-10) is rated eighth and visits No. 1 Norman County East (16-2).

Today’s other South Sub-Section contests have No. 4 Fosston (7-6) hosting No. 5 Win-E-Mac (5-7) and No. 7 Fertile Beltrami (1-11) traveling to No. 2 Sacred Heart (6-5).

The South Sub-Section elimination games, semifinals and final will be Thursday in Ada.

The Section 8A title will be decided 5:30 p.m.

In 8-2A softball action Bagley (5-10) is seeded No. 6 and will travel to No. 3 Warroad (12-8) today.
