Bemidji thumps Perham, Detroit Lakes

DETROIT LAKES – The Bemidji boys tennis team improved to 4-1 Monday after coasting past Perham 7-0 and Detroit Lakes 6-1.

Lumberjacks coach Mark Fodness tweaked his lineup to give playing time to some of his younger players and they all fared well. Unfortunately, some of his athletes did not see much action because Perham forfeited at fourth singles and third doubles.

“Our singles players took care of business in both matches and the doubles, at times, played well,” Fodness said. “This was the first time we were outside this year and it took us some time to get used to the conditions.”

Matt Hokanson, Isak Sommer and Rocky Copiskey each won twice Monday in singles play and Noah Holter was a winner against Detroit Lakes.

Lukas Halberg also was credited with a victory when Perham forfeited at fourth singles.

The doubles tandem of Gabe Heifort and Garrett Atteberry posted a pair of wins. Sam Howard and Robert Treuer went 1-1 and Evan White and Kole Pankow were victorious at third doubles against Detroit Lakes.

Kevin Sorenson and Nick Schultz won by forfeit against Perham.

Bemidji hopes to make its home debut Thursday when the Jacks host the Northwest Quadrangular.
