Bemidji baseball, softball teams could finally play this weekend

BEMIDJI - It appears that the Bemidji High School baseball and softball teams will finally be able to begin their seasons this weekend but both squads have to head south to find available fields.

The Lumberjacks baseball team has scheduled three weekend games while the softball team will play five contests.

The baseball squad will open 5 p.m. Friday at Minneapolis South and on Saturday head coach Mike Fogelson and his team will visit Champlin Park at 11 a.m. and end the road trip at 4 p.m. in Elk River.

The softball team will put on even more miles. On Friday the Jacks will play a doubleheader at Monticello and on Saturday they will travel to Zumbrota in southeastern Minnesota for a triple-header.

The day will begin at 10 a.m. against St. Anthony and at noon BHS will face Burnsville. The road trip will end at 2 p.m. with a game against Zumbrota.

The Bemidji boys and girls track and field teams will send a handful of athletes to Friday’s Hamline Elite meet. Which athletes will be invited to the meet will be determined by the Hamline meet officials later today.

The Lumberjacks boys and girls golf teams are still awaiting their opening action. All of their scheduled meets to date have either been cancelled or postponed, including Saturday’s girls meet at Pokegama in Grand Rapids and the boys competition at Staples.
