BEMIDJI – The Bemidji High School tennis team split a pair of meets Wednesday at the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center on the Bemidji State University campus.

In Wednesday’s opener Bemidji (2-1) lost 4-3 to Grand Rapids but the Jacks rallied to spill Thief River Falls 4-3 in their second meet of the day.

Grand Rapids swept the singles matches while BHS won all three doubles.

In singles action Matt Hokanson, Noah Holter and Alex Hess dropped straight-set decisions while Isak Sommer fell in three sets.

The Lumberjacks claimed each doubles match, including one victory that was extended to three sets.

Robert Treuer and Sam Howard combined to take the first doubles battle 6-3, 4-6, (10-6).

At second doubles Garrett Atteberry and Gabe Heifort teamed for a 6-2, 6-2 win. Capping the doubles action was the 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) triumph by Kole Pankow and Evan White.

Against Thief River Falls BHS split the singles matches and claimed two of the three doubles encounters.

Holter was a 7-6 (7-0), 6-4 winner at second singles while Hess posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at third.

Treuer and Howard captured a 6-4, 6-1 win at first doubles while Pankow and White capped the team win with a 6-2, 4-6, (10-8) victory at third doubles.

Bemidji’s next scheduled meet was Monday against Perham but that competition has already been cancelled. The Jacks still hope to host the Northwest Quad on May 2.
