WOMEN'S HOCKEY: BSU alum Anderson taken in CWHL Draft
BEMIDJI -- Former Bemidji State women’s hockey player Stephanie Anderson was selected by Kunlun Red Star with the 27th overall pick in the fourth round of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League Draft held Sunday.
Anderson, a North St. Paul native, was a two-time assistant captain for the Beavers and helped BSU to a program-record 22 wins as a senior in 2015-16. She is also a two-time Four Nations Cup champion (2015 and 2016) and an IIHF Women’s World Championship gold medalist (2015) with Team USA.
Kunlun Red Star is an expansion team based in Shenzhen, China.
Anderson was one of five players with Western Collegiate Hockey Association ties selected in the draft. Kunlun also selected former Minnesota goaltender Noora Räty and former Minnesota Duluth forward Zoe Hickel. The Calgary Inferno selected former North Dakota forward Kayla Gardner, while former UMD forward Ashleigh Brykaliuk went to the Vanke Rays, the other CWHL expansion team based in China.
