BOYS HOCKEY: Bemidji stumbles in 5-3 loss at Warroad

WARROAD – Grant Tharaldson stopped 40 shots but his effort wasn’t enough as the Bemidji boys hockey team dropped a 5-3 decision Tuesday in Warroad.

Lumberjacks coach Wade Chiodo was disappointed with his team’s performance and is hoping for a better effort Friday when the Jacks head to Monticello.

“I thought half the team was moving their feet and the other half wasn’t,” Chiodo said. “For us to be successful we have to move our feet. We have to compete extremely hard and we have to make things tough for our opponents.”

“Considering how well we played Saturday at Roseau, I was hoping for a better overall effort Tuesday at Warroad.”

Bemidji took a 2-1 lead after the first period on a pair of goals by Mike Sauer. Matt Serratore assisted on both tallies.

Warroad, however, dominated the scoreboard in the second period, scoring three unanswered goals.

In the third stanza the Warriors turned their attention to owning the zone and that effort was rewarded with a 22-4 edge in shots. Bemidji did manage to get one shot past Warroad goalie Justin King when Brett Isensee scored five minutes into the period courtesy of Tyler Schummer’s assist.

Bemidji (5-10-1) could not score again and the Warriors (13-2-1) iced it with a goal in the final two minutes.
