Bemidji girls fall to Park 3-0

COTTAGE GROVE – The Bemidji High School soccer team dropped its first game Wednesday night, losing 3-0 at Park High School.

“They’re a good team,” BHS head coach Kelly Schoonover said. “This was a really good game for our girls, to play a tough team from the metro area. I’m happy with how we played.”

The Lumberjacks (2-1) only managed three shots on goal but also allowed the Wolfpack (3-0-1) to take only 12.

And it might have been a closer game if not for two fouls the Lumberjacks committed that directly led to Wolfpack goals.

Park’s first goal came 13 minutes in on a direct kick in the middle of the box. Katelyn Floysand took advantage, giving park the 1-0 lead.

Only minutes later, Floysand did virtually the same thing again. Another Bemidji foul in the 30th minute led to another Park free kick and another Floysand goal.

A minute later, Park scored again. This time, Temi Ogunrinde got an easy goal on an assist from Carly Williams to make it 3-0.

Neither team scored again in the first half and the Jacks kept the Wolfpack off the scoreboard in the second half.

“They’re pretty skilled and have a pretty competitive level of play,” Schoonover said. “We played them tough. Unfortunately those early fouls put us down and it could have been a closer game.”

Bemidji goalkeeper Amanda Palmer made nine saves, including six in the first half and three in the second half. Park goalkeeper Annie Williams made three saves.

The Lumberjacks return to the pitch today for a home game against Detroit Lakes. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
