Bemidji VFW takes pair of games against Fergus Falls

BEMIDJI - The VFW baseball team swept Fergus Falls 6-3 and 18-2 Wednesday at the BSU diamond.

Bemidji took a 4-0 lead in the first inning of the opener on the strength of singles by Collin Rutledge, Seth Anderson, Austin Weidemann and Dan Johnson.

The Vets also scored twice in the second as Tyler Geerdes stole home and Johnson delivered an RBI single.

Gabe Salander pitched four innings for the victory and Cody Anderson earned a save with three innings of relief.

Johnson finished with three singles to power the offense.

In the rematch the VFW scored 10 runs in the second inning to take charge. The stanza featured singles by Johnson and Parker Lucas plus six walks.

Another three walks and singles by Rutledge and Lucas fueled a 6-run fourth.

James Hendricks went the distance on the mound. He allowed only three hits and struck out four.

Bemidji finished with eight hits. Rutledge contributed a double and a single while Lucas added two singles.
