Blue Ox wins pair
BEMIDJI - The Bemidji Blue Ox men's amateur baseball team swept a pair of weekend games, downing Leech Lake 14-3 Saturday in Walker and drubbing Verndale 12-0 Sunday at the BSU diamond.
In Saturday's game Bemidji took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Matt Schneider's sacrifice fly. Sol Schneider's single and Josh Kelsey's 2-run home run in the third inning gave Bemidji a 4-0 advantage.
The Blue Ox padded its lead with three runs in the fifth, three in the sixth, two in the seventh and two in the eighth.
Nolan Coyle had three hits and Landon Harris and Sol Schneider had two. Matt Schneider went the full eight innings to pick up the pitching victory.
The Blue Ox broke a 0-0 deadlock in Sunday's game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and extended its cushion the rest of the way.
The Blue Ox (4-0) is off until June 3 when it hosts Sebeka at 1:30 p.m.
