Hockey Day is coming to Bemidji; 13th annual event set for winter 2019

Boys sixth at True Team

SAUK RAPIDS -- Bemidji athletes didn't win any events Thursday afternoon, finishing no better than third, and the Lumberjacks placed sixth overall with 602.5 points at the True Team 8-3A meet at Sauk Rapids.

"We had a lot of good performers," Bemidji head coach Steve Sneide said. "The kids stepped up. But we realized we've got a lot of work to do as a team down the road."

Buffalo won the meet with 880.5 points while Moorhead came in second with 866.5. St. Michael-Albertville, Monticello and Brainerd all finished in front of Bemidji as well.

"The biggest thing is to see how we can keep improving and see what it takes to get there with the top teams," Sneide said. "You can see the scores there; some of these teams are very good."

Elias Hendrickson and Adam Loisel each finished third in their respective events.

Hendrickson took third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 0.98 seconds. Phillip Lavallee of Monticello won the event in 1:59.43.

Loisel competed in the triple jump and took the third spot with a leap of 39 feet, 6 inches. Buffalo's Eric Selchow took first with 42-8.

The 4x400 meter relay team took fourth at 3:32.71. Sam Carlson also placed fourth with a 2-mile run of 10:07.27. Zac Declusin also took fourth, with a 5-10 high jump. Moorhead's Abe Wright won with 6-4.

Sneide said now that True Team is behind them, the Lumberjacks can concentrate on individual results.

"We've got to shift focus quickly," he said. "We're going to try and qualify individual athletes for state. The kids won't be doing a ton of events so they can concentrate on making state."

The Lumberjacks have a week off before returning to the track May 22 for a home invitational.
