Thief River Falls blanks Bemidji tennis team

THIEF RIVER FALLS - Bemidji saw its three-match winning streak come to an end Thursday as the Lumberjacks boys tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Thief River Falls.

The Prowlers entered the match ranked No. 5 in Class A and they lived up to that billing.

"Thief River has a very nice lineup," said BHS coach Mark Fodness. "We lost the meet but when you play a team as talented as Thief River it will only make you better."

The Lumberjacks (4-3) won only one game and that came at third singles where Matt Hokanson dropped a 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 7-5 decision.

"That was Matt's best match of the season," Fodness said. "And in many other matches we pushed Thief River. Many of the games went to adds but it seemed that Thief River always found a way to win them."

The Lumberjacks return to action Saturday when they battle Fergus Falls, Brainerd and Moorhead at the Moorhead Invitational.

Brainerd and Moorhead are section rivals while Fergus Falls dropped to Class A this spring.
