Positive start to busy week

DETROIT LAKES - A busy week began on a positive note Tuesday for the Bemidji boys tennis team as the Lumberjacks posted a 5-2 victory at Detroit Lakes.

"It was a good day for us and it was important that we got the week off on a good note," said BHS coach Mark Fodness whose team improved to 4-2 in dual action.

"The next step for us is Thursday at Thief River Falls and they are ranked No. 5 in Class A. And on Saturday we go to Moorhead to face three very good section opponents in Fergus Falls, Brainerd and Moorhead."

Tuesday at Detroit Lakes the Lumberjacks swept the doubles and split the four singles matches.

Adam Holter and Kyle Fodness set the tone with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at first doubles. Austin Korczak and Zach Hewitt cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at second and the duo of Craig Lindseth and Jack Boyer rolled to a 6-0, 6-3 triumph at third.

Earning singles victories were Matt Hokanson and Noah Holter. Hokanson outlasted Derek Brehm 7-6 (7-3, 6-3 at third while Holter posted a 6-3, 6-3 win at fourth.

Falling in singles play were Alex Hess and Isak Sommer.

"We won the matches we should have and, overall, we saw growth on the court," Fodness coach.
