Trey Dale leads field after first day

BRAINERD - Bemidji's Trey Dale fired a 1-under-par 71 to take the lead after the first round of the Friday-Saturday Pequot Lakes Invitational held at The Pines and The Preserve golf courses.

Dale's card read 35-36-71 on the par-72 Pines layout. Joining him in the 70s was teammate Kodi Craft who shot 37-39-76.

"Trey and Kodi played great golf," said Jacks coach Seth Knudson. "Those were exceptional rounds."

With the help of those performances Bemidji finished eighth in Friday's 16-team field with a team score of 315. Lakeville North enters today's 18 holes at The Preserve with the team lead as it shot 296 Friday. Staples enters today's action at 306 and Grand Rapids is at 307.

"We're in the hunt," Knudson said. "If we can get a couple for scores in the 70s and have the others shoot in the low 80s we can move up."

BHS had three players finish in the 80s Friday. Elliot Leinen shot 40-43-83, Zack Rickers finished 45-40-85 and Sam Bruestle carded a 42-43-85. Ryan Erickson finished 48-49-97.

The teams return to duty at 8 a.m. today. Originally scheduled for a 9 a.m. start the meet was moved ahead in an attempt to beat the rain that is predicted for later today.

"It will be chilly when we begin as the forecast is for high temperatures in the upper 40s. Hopefully, we'll be done with the round before the worst of the weather arrives," Knudson said.
