DETROIT LAKES - Last weekend the Bemidji High School boys golf team struggled at the season-opening meet in Jordan. Tuesday at Wildflower near Detroit Lakes, however, the Lumberjacks displayed their predicted form.

The transformation resulted in a second-place finish at the 16-team event as BHS shot 312.

Staples-Motley won the meet with 309.

"Even though we didn't have two of our guys last weekend we demonstrated huge improvement on Tuesday," said Jacks coach Seth Knudson. "We're chalking the performance at Jordan to a bad day. Today I could see the improvement in the kids' mental approach. And that different approach helped them bounce back with solid rounds."

Leading the way were Kodi Craft and Trey Dale who each shot 77 on the par-72 layout. A stroke behind them was Zach Rickers while Elliot Leinen and Ryan Erickson carded rounds of 80. Sam Starkey finished at 90.

"I think we should shoot these types of scores every time," Knudson said. "I knew we were capable of shooting these scores and on Tuesday we proved that."

The Lumberjacks return to action Friday and Saturday at the Pequot Lakes Invitational.
