BEMIDJI - The season opened on a positive note for the Bemidji boys tennis team as the Lumberjacks posted a 6-1 victory over Perham at the BHS courts.

"We rested some varsity players because of injuries and Perham had some starters missing because of a church trip," said Jacks coach Mark Fodness. "But everyone played well and both teams got some good work in."

Bemidji took three of the four singles matches and swept the doubles. Matt Hokanson set the tone with a 6-4, 6-1 win at first singles and Noah Holter posted a 6-1, 6-4 triumph at second. Peter Fogel collected the other singles win, cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at fourth.

Kyle Fodness and Adam Holter dominated their first doubles match, cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 triumph.

At second doubles, Austin Korezak and Zach Hewitt won 6-1, 6-1 and Donald Erickson and Kevin Sorenson duplicated that result at third.

"It was a good match to start the season," the coach said. "We were able to pull kids up the ranks and they all did well.

"Hopefully this rest will enable us to be back at full strength Tuesday when we go to Crookston."
