Bemidji State baseball team ranked No. 5

The Bemidji State University baseball team has jumped to No. 5 in this week's NCAA Division II Central Region poll, as judged by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association members.

BSU, 7-3, returns to action Saturday and Sunday when it concludes its non-conference season with a pair of doubleheaders at Wayne State.

During its recent six-game stint in Arizona Bemidji State's offense averaged 9.8 runs while the defense allowed 6.3 runs per game.

St. Cloud leads the Central Region poll with 70 points while Minnesota State is second (58), New Mexico Highlands third (57), Colorado Mesa fourth (53) and BSU fifth (30).

Bemidji State hits the road this weekend for its first spring tournament, traveling to Pekin, Ill. for a meet hosted by the University of Springfield.

Among those returning for the Beavers is senior Casey Hill who averaged 74.6 last year.

Bemidji State's next action will be March 30-April 1 at the Wayne State Invitational.
