Bemidji no match for Hawks in boys hockey

Hermantown scored four goals within a minute's span during the second period and that outburst carried the Hawks to a 10-4 victory over the Bemidji boys hockey team Saturday in Hermantown.

John Forseth scored 11:04 into the second period to draw BHS within 3-2 but Hermantown, which improved to 18-0 and will maintain its top ranking in the Class A state poll, took a 7-2 lead before the Lumberjacks knew what hit them. Hermantown answered Forseth's goal 14 seconds later and within the next two minutes it would score three more times.

Ryan Erickson gave Bemidji, which fell to 11-7, a brief 1-0 lead five minutes into the contest when he converted feeds from Eric Hernesman and Eli Burns.

The Hawks answered 1:37 later and then took a 2-1 lead at 7:10 on Paul Harold's tally.

Chris Benson gave Hermantown a 3-1 cushion 9:48 into the middle session but Forseth countered at 11:04 when he came out of the corner to beat Hawks goalie Matt Mensinger.

But the rest of the period belonged to the home team and Hermantown enjoyed a comfortable 7-2 lead after 34 minutes.

Dillon Eichstadt scored in the opening minute of the third period to bring the Jacks within 7-3 but Hermantown needed only four minutes to answer on Zach Kramer's goal.

Midway through the period Jordan Heller raced out of the penalty box to grab a loose puck at center and he scored on a breakaway.

Goals by Owen Stauber and Andrew Mattson later in the period made the score 10-4, however, and forced running time for the final 3:30.

Bemidji, which saw its five-game winning streak come to a crashing halt, is at East Grand Forks Thursday.
