Bemidji Nordic skiing takes third at Mount Itasca

The search for snow led the Bemidji Nordic ski teams to Mount Itasca Tuesday and a meet on man-made snow hosted by Ely.

The boys team fared very well as it finished third in a 13-team field. The girls squad was eighth among 13 teams.

"It was a fantastic performance by the boys team," said BHS coach Mark Walters. "Our top four times were sandwiched very consistently and if these four guys can stay within the realm of a minute of each other we could go a long way this year."

Bemidji's foursome included Tony Sagedahl who finished the 5.4-kilometer course in eighth place (14:03) Adam Holter who was 14th (14:24), Kyle Sagedahl who was 15th (14:24) and Eli Rassler who was 25th (14:49).

Also competing for the Lumberjacks were Sam Dwyer who was 29th (15:09) and Tanner Asper who was 52nd (16:48).

Duluth East won the boys meet with 384 points, Ely was second with 352 and Bemidji third with 342. The other Section 8 teams in the field were Brainerd which was fifth with 277, Little Falls which was ninth with 240 and Detroit Lakes was 10th with 236.

In the girls varsity Duluth East won with 389, Grand Rapids was second with 371 and Ely third with 346. Section 8 teams Little Falls and Brainerd finished fourth and fifth with 336 points and 289 points while the Jacks were eighth with 245.

Individually Morgan Sagedahl was Bemidji's top performer as she was 30th (18:45). Emma Brokl finished 44th (19:55), Summer Johnosn 48th (20:16), Kim Truedson 52nd (20:43), California Thorson 58th (22:50) and Mikayla Connell 62nd (23:38).
