The Bemidji State women's soccer team defeated St. Cloud State 2-0 Saturday afternoon in the home opener at BSU Scocer Field.

The Beavers were led by goalkeeper Abby Kjonaas' nine saves in the shutout. Bri Scanlan had a goal and an assist.

The Beavers improved to 4-4-1 (3-1-1 NSIC) on the season and all four victories have been won with shutouts.

Kirsten Erickson scored in the fourth minute on a shot low to the left corner. Assisting the play were Kari McAllen and Scanlan.

Scanlan scored on a low shot close to the post in the 51st minute on an assist from Jessie Voeller.

Bemidji State wraps up the weekend Sunday at home against Concordia-St. Paul.

The BSU volleyball team lost to No. 10 Wayne State 3-0 Saturday afternoon at BSU Gymnasium by game scores of 25-15, 25-23 and 25-16.

The Beavers fall to 4-12 (1-7 NSIC) with the loss and the Wildcats improved to 11-5 (4-3 NSIC).

"For the most part we played them pretty hard," said BSU head coach Wayne Chadwick. "(Wayne State) is number ten in the country and is not number ten by accident. The next step in the development of this team has to be a sense of urgency and an understanding moment to score points when we need to."

Kimerly Hacker and Bethany Thompson each had eight kills to leave the Bevers. Kelsi Crawford had six kills.

Laura Carlson and Jessi-Beth McCannell each had 19 digs. McCannell had 22 set assists.
