BSU volleyball faces Moorhead in home opener

The Bemidji State volleyball team plays at home for the first time this weekend in a pair of NSIC games at BSU Gymnasium.

The Beavers face Minnesota State University, Moorhead on Friday at 7 p.m. and Minnesota-Crookston on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Bemidji State has a 3-6 record to start the season.

BSU has been led thus far by junior outside hitter Bethany Thompson. She has averaged 2.97 kills per game and is hitting .198. BSU currently boasts a .187 hitting percentage as a team.

Thompson is joined on the offensive attack by newcomers Kelsi Crawford, Rachel Craig and Kelly Niles. They have each started all nine matches for Chadwick's squad.

At setter, Jessi-Beth McCannell has gained the bulk of the playing time and has just over eight assists per set.

Laura Carlson paces the Beavers defensively at libero. She is averaging 3.48 digs per game.

Moorhead enters the weekend with a 3-5 record and Crookston is 4-5.

The Bemidji State women's soccer team opens the NSIC season this weekend on the road.

The Beavers play at Minnesota-Crookston on Saturday and at MSU, Moorhead on Sunday. Both game times are 1 p.m.

The Beavers are 1-3 after the non-conference schedule and are coming off a 2-1 overtime win against Minot State.

Kirsten Erickson leads Bemidji State's so far with two of the three goals on the season.

Abby Kjonaas has 24 saves on the season and a .774 save percentage.

Crookston enters the weekend with a 1-4 record and Moorhead is 4-0.

The Bemidji State football team hosts Southwest Minnesota State in the Shrine Game at Chet Anderson Stadium on Saturday at 6 p.m.

The Beavers are 2-0 (1-0 NSIC) to start the season and are coming off a 30-27 overtime victory over then No. 16 Augustana at Sioux Falls.

Southwest is 1-1 (1-0 NSIC) this season and defeated U-Mary 48-45 in Marshall last Saturday.

Bemidji State men's hockey single game tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.

The Beavers host 19 games this season and the home-opening weekend is Oct. 21-22 against Michigan Tech.
