BSU cross country: Maras 15th at Valley City

VALLEY CITY, N.D. -- Bemidji State cross country runner Kirsten Maras opened her senior season with a 15th place finish Friday at the Valley City State Invite in North Dakota.

She led BSU to a third-place finish.

Maras completed the 4,000-meter course in 17:02.00 to edge teammate Tina Larson, who took 18th overall, by just 14 seconds (17:16.50).

Alison Hougen posted a 17:33.20 to finish 22nd, Michelle Ohman took 24th with a time of 17:38.70 and Emily Paquin rounded out BSU's team score in 33rd place, crossing the finish line in 18:28.70 in her first collegiate race.

Concordia College (Minn.) took the overall team title, while individual honors went to Jamestown College's Aleona Reyes, turned in a time of 15:49.70.

Bemidji State returns to action Sept. 9, when it travels to Glyndon to participate in Minnesota State University Moorhead's Randy Smith Invitational.
