Bemidji 16U softball wins state
Bemidji's 16U girls softball team recently won the state MSF tournament in Sauk Rapids, posting a 5-0 record in the double-elimination event.
Bemidji opened with an 11-1 win over Sauk Rapids behind the combined pitching of Brianna Neumann and Jess Yost. Abby Hinrichs had three of Bemidji's 11 hits while Jasmin Yerbich and Courtney Black each had two.
Bemidji then nipped Brainerd 7-6 in 11 innings. Yost went the distance on the mound and Yerbich had the game-winning hit. Mackinzie Slough contributed three hits and Black, Yerbich and Neumann each had two.
In the winner's bracket semifinals Bemidji blanked Duluth 10-0 as Neumann pitched a complete game and Hanna Olson smacked two hits.
Bemidji remained unbeaten with a 5-1 win over Cloquet. Yost had six strikeouts while Sough and Yerbich paced the offense with two hits. Yost also had a triple.
Cloquet survived the loser's-bracket final and earned a rematch with Bemidji which remained unbeaten. Bemidji maintained that status and won the tournament by blanking Cloquet 5-0 behind Yost's no-hitter. She fanned eight in the contest and did not allow a walk.
Bemidji had 10 hits including two by Hannah Neeland, Neumann and Yerbich.
