Bemidji stays alive at Cal Ripken state tournament

Baxter reached the final of the Cal Ripken state 11-year-old tournament Saturday with a 9-3 win over Waite Park.

Bemidji stayed alive beating Thief River Falls 5-2 in the morning and ousting the East Twins of Maplewood 11-0 in four innings in the afternoon.

Bemidji and Waite Park will meet at 11 a.m. this morning with the winner taking on Baxter at 1:30 for the title.

Should Baxter lose, a second game would follow immediately.

Baxter ran home five runs in its first at bat to take control of the winners' bracket final. It added two spots in the third and sixth to pull away.

Collin Kleffman led the attack with three hits. Logan Aleshire had a double and single for Waite Park.

In the losers' bracket, Bemidji also opened with five in the first and went on to beat Thief River 5-2.

Dominic Evenson and Cade Ogden allowed only two hits, Evenson working the first four to get the win.

Ogden, George Loxtercamp and Ryan Pogue all had two hits.

The East Twins scored in their final five innings in their 10-6 win over Moorhead taking the lead with two in the fifth and adding three in the sixth.

Bemidji then unleashed an 11 hit attack to beat the East Twins, playing errorless defense. Zac Schaubhut threw a one hitter to get the win fanning eight.
