Bemidji native Lovering wins Minneapolis Marathon

Three hours, 7 minutes and 26 seconds is how long it took Bemidji High School alumna Jessica Lovering to win the Minneapolis Marathon Sunday. Her finishing time was more than 10 minutes ahead of second-place finisher Madeline Harms of Minneapolis, and earned her 10th place among all 817 runners.

"I'm quite happy with how things went," said Lovering. "It was my first marathon."

A total of 492 men and 325 women finished the 26.2-mile race.

"My goal was to get under four hours and beat my sister," she laughed.

While this may have been Lovering's first marathon, she's not foreign to competitive racing. She ran track and cross-country during high school and college at St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn.

"I made it to state my senior year and took 11th in the 3,200 meters," said Lovering.

Her personal record was 11 minutes and 20 seconds for the eight-lap race.

Currently Lovering lives in Shoreview, Minn., working as a lab technician for Aveda, a company that sells skin and hair products.

"It's the perfect job," said Lovering. "I love it."
